Sunset wedding on the shores of Lake Washington

Molly and Matt (from Jacksonville, Florida) got married over Labor Day weekend at The Woodmark in Kirkland, Washington. The venue is situated along the shores of Lake Washington, providing panoramic views of the lake and the Seattle skyline. Quite the scenic backdrop for a ROMANTIC sunset wedding, and a salute to a handsome match. Congrats Molly and Matt!!

The vendors we worked with were great. The Woodmark staff were flexible and accommodating. Three talented young ladies, The Gothard Sisters Trio were the ceremony musicians, and Robert Riner Studios provided great music during the reception. A friend of the family was the florist. Wedding cinematography... its not your average wedding footage.

I have to rave about my studio mate, Travis Shields of Shields Films - quite the talented individual and a funny dude. Travis was also on hand to capture Mindy & Jordan's wedding. Check out Mindy + Jordan's wedding trailer below, and learn more about Shields Films.

CBL: What inspires you as a cinematographer?
TRAVIS: I am inspired by beauty, and there's a lot of beauty to be found in the quiet places of a wedding day. A bride's eyes as she see her groom for the first time on her wedding day, a proud father as he gives his daughter away, heartfelt vows, the look of true love. Moments like these inspire me.

CBL: What's the best part about your job?
TRAVIS:I love telling a good story on film. Every wedding day is so different and deserves to be remembered. It makes me happy knowing that I'm creating a film that will engage the viewer and be loved. Shooting in black and white Super 8 film is fun too. Old film has a real warmth to it.

CBL: What sets you apart from others?
TRAVIS: Most people perceive a wedding video as somewhat of a joke, evoking images of dreaded hours of boring footage, drunken guest interviews, overused soft focus, and tacky digital effects. Our videos tell a story. We take pride in capturing all the special moments of a wedding day and creating a personal wedding movie that will move and entertain. Not long and boring like most you've probably seen, but a beautifully produced movie that you will want to show off to all the important people in your life.

CBL:What's your advice to a bride looking for a wedding cinematographer?
TRAVIS: Find someone you connect with. If their work hits you in that emotional sweet spot then book them quickly.

CBL: How did you get started?
TRAVIS: Out of college I was looking for a career direction and I knew I wanted to serve people somehow. Now I serve people with my camera.

CBL: Tell us something about you.
TRAVIS: My favorite foods are (in order): 1. Tacos 2. Steak 3. Sushi 4. Chinese... Gift cards are welcome.

New office at the historic Union Station

The wedding & event planning business has out grown my home studio. Its been a long time coming, and its finally here!! A new studio space at the historic Union Station located in Portland's Pearl District. The studio is also shared by Honeysuckle Photography and Shields Films. This collaboration will provide our clients the opportunity for a "one-stop-shopping" experience with wedding & event planning, invitations, specialty linen rentals, cinematography and photography all under one roof. Our official open house is TBD but don't let that stop you. Come on by and check out the new digs!

A romantic sunset at the beach...

What a sweet couple! I had the honor of helping Zhaohui plan his proposal to Zhu last winter with an adorable bichon frise puppy who I have since adopted. With the distance between them, and a crazy schedule they finally had their engagement photos taken. Check out Zhu and Zhaohui's beautiful sunset engagement session at Cannon Beach with Ryan Flood of FS Photography. They are to wed later this month at The Oregon Golf Club.
